Product test: SEVO Smart Control GT

Barbecue with electricity - is that possible and can it become an alternative to wood and gas-powered grills even for ambitious grill masters? After renowned grill manufacturers such as Napoleon and Weber have been providing electric grills for barbecues for several years, the electric appliance brand Severin is following suit with its SEVO models. Not only direct grilling (up to 500 °C), but also indirect BBQ at low temperatures should be possible with the SEVO, says Severin. Severin provided the FIRE&FOOD editorial team with the SEVO Smart Control GT for the test.

Data and assembly
Take the device out of the packaging, insert the reflector tray and inserts, hang up the heating element, and put the grill grates on. After 5 minutes, the SEVO was ready for use with a grill surface of 41.5 x 31.5 cm. Since the grill is "smart", you can download the corresponding app onto your smartphone and connect to the device via Bluetooth. Two core temperature sensors are also included as accessories.

Operation
The user can be guided intuitively through the device's functions using a rotary control. The heating status is displayed using a light ring: a flashing light for heating up, a permanent light when the temperature is reached, an orange light for the direct grilling process, which can be selected between 80-350 °C, the boost zone even reaches up to 500 °C with the lid open, which is enormous for a connection with only 230 V. In the temperature test, 500 °C was easily reached after just a few minutes. We were particularly excited about the indirect grilling function. With the toast test, we could easily see the stronger heat zone on the outer edge, while the middle of the grill grate was only slightly heated and thus offered enough space for indirect grilling. The double-walled design of the lid and the shielding of the grill pan protect the user from burns on the housing.

1. The reflector bowl is filled with liquid during operation to prevent grease fires.

2. The heating coil delivers 3000 W of power

3. An easily removable heating coil ensures easy cleaning

4. Rotary control in standby

5. 2-piece heavy stainless steel grate

6. Clearly visible in the toast test, the high heat on the outer edge

Conclusion
The SEVO Smart Control GT is impressive in its functions. Whether indirect barbecuing or direct grilling over the boost zone, the SEVO keeps its promise. The SEVO also scores points visually, and its operation is easy to understand. The app, for which registration is required, is purely a matter of taste. The SEVO is a serious alternative to conventional grills. Especially for users who cannot enjoy grilling with gas or charcoal devices due to space or fire protection reasons. If green electricity is also used, grilling is possible in a CO2-neutral way. Appropriate for our times!

RRP for the SEVO Smart Control GT (table grill) 669 euros, for the SEVO Smart Control GTS (table grill with cart) 799 euros. The SEVO GT is also available without Smart Control from 499 euros
