The TARAN brings the culture of fire back home! Fire is fundamentally important in the iron smelting process , hence the TARAN FIRE's name. Design object No. 1 is a fireplace for grilling and roasting . TARAN, a Celtic first name, evokes the Iron Age, when the Celts settled throughout Europe, as well as the Alpine and Lake Constance regions. Even then, the Celts were already deeply involved in iron processing.
The fire bowl and all other cast-iron components of the TARAN are made of ductile iron . This material is used for safety-relevant chassis components in the domestic automotive industry and possesses all the properties the TARAN requires: stability, durability, and a certain degree of elasticity. The TARAN is available in two versions : a purist fire pit and a fully equipped grill.
Original grilling with wood
The TARAN's mission is to provide the fun of the original wood-fired grilling experience , a safe and versatile fire pit . Crafted from recycled cast iron, the TARAN is a durable and sustainable product with ideal grilling properties.
From vegetables, meat, and fish to desserts and chestnuts, the TARAN grill offers the simple function of preparing delicious and easy-to-use dishes. Its versatile accessories —the iron grate, cast-iron plate, wok insert, and grill pan—lead to your grilling imagination.
After grilling, you can transform the grill into a fire pit by swiveling the fire bowl. This invites you to a cozy get-together, thus rounding off the perfect barbecue experience.
Tips for lighting the grill correctly:
It is recommended that the grill be burned out on red-hot coals for at least 30 minutes before first use.
1. Shake a pile of charcoal into the center of the charcoal basket (which is already in the fire bowl) and put a few firelighters in the center of the pile.
2. Light the firelighters provided with a long match or lighter.
3. Heat the charcoal to a glowing state, ensuring there is sufficient air supply.
Wait until the charcoal is fully glowing. This is when it is completely covered with a layer of white ash. Only then can you add your food to the grill.
Note: The firelighters must be completely used up and the coal must be covered with a layer of ash before the food can be placed on the grill.
Tips for cleaning and care:
Most of the cast parts that make up the TARAN have a natural corrosion protection oil. After coating with natural (edible) oil, this is baked onto the cast surface, creating a protective patina. This patina requires maintenance.
After use, let the grill cool down and dispose of the cold ash. Wipe down any grates and dirty areas with a brush or damp cloth. Then immediately brush with cooking oil (e.g., sunflower oil, linseed oil, or similar). Always re-oil after every use, as otherwise rust may develop.
If larger areas need to be repaired, brush the affected areas of the grill with cooking oil and then heat them. To do this, either place the individual parts in a preheated oven at over 220°C for 15-30 minutes or simply fire up the grill until a dark patina has formed.
Because cast iron grates are only treated with oil, they may begin to oxidize or become dirty after a certain amount of wear and tear and exposure to natural weather conditions. If this happens, clean the grates with a brass brush and a damp cloth and repeat the seasoning process with oil. Even if the cast iron rusts slightly, this does not affect its functionality. Cast iron does not rust through.
