Born from fire - made for fire.
The TARAN brings the culture of fire back home! Fire is of fundamental importance in the iron melting process and is therefore the namesake of the TARAN FIRE. The design object no. 1 is a fireplace on which you can grill and roast . TARAN, a Celtic first name, creates a connection to the Iron Age, when the Celts settled all of Europe as well as the Alps and Lake Constance region. The Celts were already working extensively with iron processing at that time.
The fire bowl and all other cast iron components of the TARAN are made of spheroidal cast iron . This material is used for safety-relevant chassis components in the domestic automotive industry and has all the properties that the TARAN needs. Stability, durability and a certain elasticity. TARAN is available in two versions . Puristic as a fireplace and with extensive complete equipment as a grill.
Original grilling with wood
The intention of the TARAN as a grill is to enjoy the original grilling experience with wood , a safe and versatile fireplace . Made from recycled material in cast iron, the TARAN is a durable and sustainable product with ideal grilling properties.
From vegetables, meat and fish to desserts and chestnuts, the TARAN grill offers the simple function of preparing food deliciously and easily. Its versatile accessories , the iron grate, the cast iron plate, the wok insert and the grill pan, leave almost no limits to your grilling imagination.
After grilling, you can turn the grill into a fire pit by swinging the fire bowl. It invites you to a cozy get-together and rounds off the perfect grilling experience.
Tips for lighting the grill properly:
It is recommended that the grill be burned out on red hot coals for at least 30 minutes before first use.
1. Shake a pile of charcoal into the center of the charcoal basket (which is already in the fire bowl) and put a few firelighter cubes in the center of the pile.
2. Light the firelighter cubes provided with a long match or lighter.
3. Bring the charcoal to glow with sufficient air supply.
Wait until the charcoal is completely glowing. This is the case when it is completely covered with a layer of white ash. Only then can you put your food on the grill.
Note: The firelighters must be completely used up and the coal must be covered with a layer of ash before the food can be placed on the grill.
Tips for cleaning and care:
Most of the cast parts that make up the TARAN have a natural corrosion protection from oil. After coating with natural (edible) oil, this is burned into the cast surface, creating a protective patina. This patina must be maintained.
After use, let the grill cool down and dispose of the cold ash. Wipe down grates and dirty areas with a brush or damp cloth. Then brush again immediately with cooking oil (e.g. sunflower oil, linseed oil, or similar). In general, oil again after every use, otherwise rust can form.
If larger areas need to be repaired, brush the affected areas of the grill with cooking oil and then heat them. To do this, either heat the individual parts in a preheated oven for 15 - 30 minutes at over 220°C or simply light the grill until a dark patina has formed.
Since the cast iron grates are only treated with oil, they can start to oxidize or become dirty after a certain amount of wear and tear and exposure to natural weather conditions. In such a case, clean the grates with a brass brush and a damp cloth and repeat the seasoning process with oil. If the cast iron rusts slightly, this does not limit its function. Cast iron does not rust through.
