New BIAG seal

BIAG seal for legal charcoal and charcoal briquettes.

Europe grills – and preferably with wood, charcoal or charcoal briquettes. However, there has recently been an increase in critical voices about the sources from which some of the wood used comes. The European barbecue association Barbecue Industry Association Grill eV (BIAG) also disapproves of and fights illegal logging and the trade in illegally obtained wood. It also applies this to charcoal and charcoal briquettes – even though these products are not explicitly covered by the EU Timber Regulation.
The association now wants to launch its own seal and certification program, which will enable "legal" charcoal products to be labeled and thus ensure greater transparency on the market. The program is currently being developed with cooperation partner DIN Certco GmbH and is due to be launched on the market in 2018.
