The recipes in BORN TO GRILL come from 20 grill masters, including Patrick Bayer (2017 Pulled Pork World Champion) and Bernhard Reiser ("The Chic Chef"). At the initiative of co-editor Gerhard Volk, they came together during the lockdown. "We made a virtue out of necessity," says Gerhard Volk. "Our cooking and grilling schools are busy all year round. Now we had time to refine recipes and turn them into a joint book." Co-editor Ulf Tietge adds: "We've proven that too many cooks don't spoil the broth." His publishing house, team tietge, developed and implemented the idea together with Gerhard Volk. From June to August 2020, the team visited grill academies in Germany and Austria. The result is intended to be inspiration for beginners and advanced grillers alike. Because – as Volk and Tietge state in the editorial: "Grilling is a lifestyle."
Ulf Tietge is the editor of the gourmet magazine #heimat Schwarzwald, a passionate griller and cook, and a longtime friend of Gerhard Volk. Grill master Gerhard Volk is a multiple award-winning chef (Culinary Olympics), a grill and cooking school director, and developed the Weber Grill Academy concept with grill manufacturer Weber.
